Canadian TV: Police Surgeon
Police Surgeon TV-Series: 1971-1974 aka "Dr. Simon Locke"
Police Surgeon was one of the
first US/Canadian Co-Produced TV Series shot in Canada
by US producers that actually identified itself as
being set in a Canadian location, Dixon Mills, Ontario
and employed Canadian writers which was quite unusual
at the time and (some would say) still is today. The
lead actor Sam Groom is also famous
for starring on the now departed but long-running soap
opera "Another World" as the original Dr. Russ
Matthews and for playing Jerry on the Irwin Allen
series "Time Tunnel" which you can check out at
The Irwin Allen News Network.
Irwin Allen also produced "Land of the Giants" and
other weird sci-fi stuff like that. The producer of
Police Surgeon, Chester Krumholz, is famous
for working on a number of big US shows including
"Kojak" and "Mannix."
Police
Surgeon Plot Outline
The cases of rugged young Dr.
Locke and his crusty mentor Dr. Sellers.
Dr. Simon Locke was a handsome
young physician who moved to the small town of Dixon
Mills, Canada, where he set up practice with his
curmudgeonly older mentor
Dr. Andrew Sellers. Louise
Wynn was their nurse, as they treated crime victims,
abused children and a variety of diseases, some
serious, others not so. In the second season, Dr.
Locke left Dixon Mills, Dr. Sellers and Nurse Wynn
behind for the big city, where he joined the police
emergency unit and received a new boss in former Dixon
Mills cop Dan Palmer. Palmer was later replaced by Lt.
Gordon, as Locke investigated a number of crimes
associated with the patients he was
treating.
